Nestled along Highway 6 frontage within a quiet neighborhood in Santa Fe, Texas, a house once mired in chaos and clutter has blossomed into a community marketplace. What started as a daunting task to clear out a hoarder house and overgrown two-acre property has evolved into a heartwarming story of transformation, unity, and entrepreneurial spirit. The Beginning: From Hoarder House to Visionary Project
Our story begins with acquiring the house—a home and property overflowing with nearly 50 years of accumulated belongings. Initially, the task seemed insurmountable. However, Don and Marlena Thomas saw beyond the clutter and envisioned a community marketplace space that can bring the community together.
The Clean-Up: A Herculean Effort
The first phase of our journey required a massive clean-up operation. We tackled the overwhelming task of sorting, organizing, and removing countless items from the house, outbuildings, and land.
Renovation: Breathing New Life into the Space
After clearing the inside contents of the house and outhouses, the real work began. We tackled the demolition and clearing project and are presently adding welcoming features to transform the frontage lot into an inviting marketplace space.
Community Events: Building Connections
Particularly, our marketplace vision extends beyond a place to shop—it aims to be a vibrant social hub. We plan to host community events regularly, such as farmers’ markets, craft fairs, workshops, and holiday events. We believe these events will strengthen connections among neighbors, promoting a sense of belonging and pride in our community.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Our Marketplace
As we reflect on our progress, we feel optimistic about the future. Our goal is to become a community cornerstone, and we’re excited to continue growing and evolving. Plans are already in the works for installing a white picket fence to enhance the space, installation of landscaping, seating with market umbrellas, benches, entrance and exit access, and parking areas.
Establishing the Marketplace: A Hub of Local Goods and Services
With the physical space progressing on schedule for our Grand Opening Market on March 15, 2025, we are equally widening our focus to curating a diverse selection of local goods and services. The marketplace will become an accessible hub for farmers, artisans, and small business owners to showcase their products. From fresh produce and handmade crafts to vintage and antique finds and gourmet treats, there will be something for everyone.
